This is neat. I'm not sharing to imply whales can perfectly understand English. But I love animal-human interactions where it's clear that the animal side is trying to make a connection.
Finn has this thing he'll do when he comes in from a walk. His routine is that he always gets a big biscuit when he gets home, and he clearly has a lot of anxiety someone will forget this.
If Greg has walked them and I've stayed home, and if he walks in and my head is down, looking at my desk or something, seemingly not aware of his arrival, he will make the MOST HUMAN SOUNDING NOISE he possibly can. It's a whole sentence of flowy vowels that he never makes any other time. It's like a wookiee trying to say "Hello hello, now now". It's ADORABLE, and I admit sometimes I feign ignorance of his arrival just to see if he'll do it.
